The scattering of light in cavities caused by the surface figure error of the mirrors can limit the sensitivity of a high precision interferometer by introducing optical losses. Here the thickness uniformity of recently developed, large area, high reflectivity crystalline AlGaAs coatings for 1064 nm has been measured by scanning the reflectivity. To strongly increase the penetration into the coating a 1550 nm laser was used. The RMS thickness variation was measured to be below 0.5 nm.
