Abstract:
We present the Extended Folded Pendulum Model (EFPM), a model developed for a quantitative description of the dynamical behavior of a folded pendulum generically oriented in space, with horizontal and vertical folded pendulums as limit cases. This model, based on the Tait-Bryan angular reference system, highlights the relationship between the folded pendulum orientation, referred to the direction of the gravitational acceleration, and its natural resonance frequency, that is the key for its configuration as a stand-alone tiltmeter. This result, confirmed by the results of tests performed with a monolithic UNISA Folded Pendulum, opens the way to new interesting applications of the folded pendulum as tiltmeter.
