In this thesis we explore topics in the high power operation of gravitational wave detectors.
The main focus of which is phase cameras which are devices designed to diagnose issues in the cavity length/alignment error signals and quantify other high order aberrations within the detector.
Phase cameras, though promising, are still underdeveloped and underutilised compared to a number other sensors used within gravitational wave detectors. In this thesis
I will explore applications and further develop the optical lock-in phase camera design improving its technical readiness and preparing for further demonstrations within the LIGO detectors.
